Things to remember during start of Foundation

foundation is the first and most important part of any structure. So it needs due care while execution. Below we have summarized few things which one should remember during execution of foundation work.

1. The depth and width of foun
   dation should be according to structural design.
2. The depth of the foundation should not be less than 1 meter in case the design is not available.
3. Before start of excavation, the ground should be made level.
4. Reference pillars should be constructed for marking the centre line of the structure. These pillars should be preserved until the structure comes above the ground level.
5. Where it is not possible to provide reference pillars, suitable alternate marking should be done for centre lines.
6. The length, width and depth of excavation should be checked with the help of center line and level marked on the reference pillars.
7. The excavated material/ earth should be dumped at a distance of 1 meter from the edges.
8. Work should be done on dry soil.
9. Arrangement of water pump should be made for pumping out rain water.
10. The bottom layer of the foundation should be compacted.
11. There should be no soft places in foundation due to roots etc.
12. Any soft/ defective spots should be dug out and be filled with concrete/ hard material
13. Anti-termite treatment should be done to the soil before commencement of foundation work
